Episode 36 of The Sailing Podcast is with Paul and Sheryl Shard of the Distant Shores TV Series. They were ‘on location’ in Martinique and have an exciting collection of sailing stories to share. We are also planning a follow up podcast with listener questions answered by the Shards – check the show notes for more information on how to record your question.
The latest series from the Distant Shores team takes us from cruising through French Canals in Europe to the Southern Caribbean via Morocco and the Canary Islands. They joined the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers for the trip across the Atlantic and this is all captured in Series 9 of the Distant Shores TV Series.
In the interview we hear:
- How Paul and Sheryl Shard go into sailing and about the construction of their first yacht – “Two Step”
- Some advice on ways to make sailing pay
- A quick overview of the range and scope of sailing they have done
- How to purchase their DVD’s from the Distant Shores website

Now in their 9th Series, award winning documentary makers Paul and Sheryl Shard have produced 117 by 30 minute episodes about their adventures sailing.
I would encourage everyone to check out their DVD’s – especially if you are researching what it is like to visit areas such as the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Northern Europe, and USA east coast.

Listener questions for Paul and Sheryl Shard
As a special episode, we are going to catch up with Paul and Sheryl again and get them to answer some sailing/cruising questions, so now I need you to send in your questions for me to ask them for that upcoming episode.
By sending in your question you will also enter the draw for a DVD from Distant Shores TV, there are a couple of ways to get your questions to me:
You can just always just email me questions to email@example.com and I can read them out during the podcast or – even better…
I have set up a way to record your question using ‘Speakpipe’ which works straight from your browser . Just click on that microphone on the right hand side of the page and you can record your question straight from your computer or smartphone.
When you record your message you could let us know
- your name
- where you are and
- if you have a website or blog, you can go ahead and let us know what it is,
I can play your recorded question as part of the podcast episode I do with Paul and Sheryl in a few weeks time.
I look forward to hearing from everyone and there is an open invitation to ask questions on any topics – from boat equipment to cooking onboard to cruising locations – the possibilities are endless and there is no such thing as a silly question – if it is on your mind, it is probably something all of us are wondering about.
